ESOL Home Tutor Service
[November 2001] ESOL Home Tutor Service website offers an extensive and impressive wealth of information about English for Speakers of Other Languages.
The ESOL Home Tutor Service was set up by social service groups and churches to help meet the learning needs of these non-English speaking migrants who could not get access to formal classes.
The site is divided into 4 clear sections: About, For Tutors, For Learners and Resources.
About explains ESOL home tutor schemes - who they are for, some history of the need and the service, where the funding comes from and what the national structure is.
For Tutors lets you know how to become a tutor and what's involved. You can fill in an online form to apply to be a tutor, and there's a restricted area for tutors and co-ordinators only.
For Learners has an overview, along with an application form and information on where to find a local scheme. There is also a discussion board for learners.
There are resources listed on the site available for online purchase and also some research materials in MS Word format available to download free.
