Insight examines motivations for volunteering

The December issue of “Insight” from the NZ Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) looks at what motivates people to volunteer their time.

The report, Something for nothing, includes a table explaining the three broad motivations for volunteering: consumption (the “here and now”, the enjoyment and benefits of volunteering); investment (the future rewards from investing today’s volunteer hours); and altruism (a genuine selfless act benefiting others).
