Promoting Your Event

If you are planning a large scale fundraising event, you’ll need to use several marketing avenues to make sure it is a success. These avenues don’t need to be expensive, but they do need to be effective – which means getting the right message, to the right people, at the right time.

There are countless ways to do this including posters and flyers, direct mail, newsletters, road signage, press releases, traditional advertising and publicity stunts. One free way to market your event is to post details on Online Events Calenders. There are several good events websites in New Zealand, depending on the type of event you are holding. The following websites are worth checking out.

Eventfinder

This is a really comprehensive site which focuses mostly on arts based events eg. concerts,  performances, exhibitions and gigs. You need to sign up to be a member in order to list events, but it is free to join. The people viewing this site are genuine event-goers looking for high quality events and experiences.

Trade and Exchange What's On

This is the events page of the Online Trade and Exchange. You can list any event from a small garage sale at your local scout hall, through to a major charity auction. Most viewers on this site are ordinary folk looking for a bargain, so it is best suited to small everyday fundraising events rather than the big budget extravaganzas.

Local Councils New Zealand

This site doesn’t have an events calendar, but it will give you the web address of your local council – and their websites will. Most local councils offer an events calendar so that they can keep track of what’s going on in their region, and in many cases if they know your event is happening, they will have already listed it. A lot of local media use council events calendars as a source for upcoming stories, so it pays to be on there.

Webhealth

The purpose of Webhealth website is to provide up-to-date information in the broad area of health and well-being. They have all sorts of useful resources for this field, including an events calendar where you can list your events for free. It’s also a great place to list workshops, meetings and training courses.
