Harnessing IT for community groups
A Hamilton enterprise is looking to harness the collective power of community organisations for social and financial good.
Launched in September, Community Technology Gateway provides solutions for community groups' technology issues, and offers collective group discounts for clients. Chief executive officer Pat Edwards said the enterprise was perfectly positioned to understand community group needs. "It's all about a community group providing technology solutions for community groups. We get their needs."
Mr Edwards said the community sector had historically trailed behind commercial operations and struggled to find strength in generating bargaining power by themselves. "And these are important groups," he said. "When something goes wrong with us, we fall back onto them. Like the Cancer Society or Diabetes New Zealand.
The organisation has become a strategic partner with Microsoft and four technicians will receive additional training from an Australian technology company.
