Blogger links volunteers
Blogger is ideal for groups who don't need a flash web presence, but one that is easy to update and maintain. Even a computer from the stone ages can handle working with Blogger.
Miraz Jordan asked Jessica Grosskreutz, the Volunteer Recruitment and Support Worker from Volunteer Friendship Link, a few questions about their website. The site is hosted by Blogger.
Q] Why did you decide to get a website? What goals did you want to achieve with it?
Making contact with our volunteers, having more channels of communication and information, having a website, recruiting volunteers.
Q] What options did you look at apart from Blogger?
Hosting a homepage, but is too expensive for our needs.
Q] How did you hear about Blogger?
From the webmaster of the Mental Health Education and Resource Centre, a real networking baby!!!
Q] Why did you decide to use Blogger and not the other options?
It is free, easy to use and has a web a/strongress that has our name in it without the need of hosting.
Q] How long did it take to set up the site at Blogger? Was it hard?
It took 5 minutes, really easy to handle, I could even understand how to put our own links in.
Q] How many people are in charge of keeping the web page up-to-date? How often does your group update?
One person in charge as only employee. Update every two weeks or when interesting information reaches the office
Q] Does it take long to update it?
Depends on the update :-) Same time as it would take to create a Microsoft Word document; similarity to Word makes it so simple.
Q] Is it hard to update it?
Not at all. It is even possible to load pictures, PDF files and paste text into Blogger.
Blogger are fantastic!!! I am so impressed with them as we were looking for a cheap and easy to operate alternative to hosting a home page. Even our computer from the stone ages can handle working with Blogger and after all, they are still so unknown that I feel like a real avantgarde to use them :-)
Q] Have you seen any benefits from having the site? Had any feedback on it?
Not immediately. I am still trying to make our Blog better known.
Q] Is there any advice you'd give to other groups (about websites / Blogger)?
You can integrate blogs in your homepage as news site or use it as we do.
Setting up a blog is easy as, if you are not convinced, just give it a go on www.blogger.com. Blogger is ideal for groups who don't need a flash web presence, but one that is easy to update and maintain. Have a look at our: www.volunteer-friendship-link.blogspot.com.
