Te Whaiti School Tipu Ake leadership model
Te Whaiti School in Te Urewera have developed a leadership model for innovative organisations called Tipu Ake ki te Ora. The model is easily applied, action focused and exploits Kiwi style teamwork.

At the tiny remote Te Whaiti school they have a saying "A Kumara never calls itself sweet, that's for the eaters to say." So even if you could visit today to see the sparkle in their children's eyes, and witness the enthusiasm for learning growth of all the students, the team and community there, it would be hard to comprehend the extent of their achievements. The Te Whaiti school community is predominantly Maori, their processes are oral and defined by stories to understand the nature of life, are steeped in a tradition of sustainability and have much to offer. A group of AUT Communications Studies students and many other volunteers all around the world are helping them share their wisdom.
Read the oral history story of how the people there transformed their school. Look under stories on the Tipu Ake website.
They share their learning journey as The Tipu Ake Lifecycle A Leadership Model for Innovative Organisations (and Communities). This is a gift from Te Whaiti NuiaToi for the wellbeing of all the world's future children. Tipu Ake means growing from within ever upwards towards wellbeing.
