The Global Education Fund
The Global Education Fund (GEF) is a contestable pool of money allocated through New Zealand's International Aid and Development Agency, NZAID, Nga Hoe Tuputupu-mai-tawhiti.
GEF provides targeted and contestable funding for Global Education activities. The aim of GEF is to provide funding for small projects to develop awareness and understanding of global perspectives among New Zealanders, to encourage them to become responsible global citizens, and to create a safe and just world.
There are two funding rounds per year, closing 31 March and 31 October.
Individual grants are between $2000 and $15000 excl GST.
There are several eligibility and selection criteria requirements to meet. The Global Education criteria must be met. This means:
- the subject matter of the educational materials and/or activities must be explicitly global,
- the educational materials and/or activities should highlight the relevancy of the issue to those living in Aotearoa New Zealand,
- the project must encourage critical thinking, reflection, and action encouraging New Zealanders to be responsible global citizens, and to create a safe and just world.
