Hui Taumata

In 1984 Māori leaders and thinkers came together at the first Hui Taumata to share their dreams and ideas for the 20 years ahead.  Following research to up-date the position of Maori today, a new Hui Taumata was held in March 2005.

Hui Taumata 2005 "celebrated what has been achieved so far, focusing the power of Māori thought on the expansion of economic pathways to ensure a successful future for our children and grandchildren."

Hui Taumata 2005 was a hui in Wellington on 1-3 March, 2005 but was much more than a three day hui. Over the preceding six months, the organisers  collated and released research on what and how Māori are doing, so that "the discussions about directions for the next 20 years can be based on facts".  The three main areas for this research and discussion are: people, assets and enterprise.
