Treaty of Waitangi Resources

Some of the longest running campaigns in Aotearoa/New Zealand have been against the impact on Maori of breaches of the Treaty of Waitangi.  For successful campaigns in this country, we need to understand the role the Treaty has in our work.

• The Government's Treaty of Waitangi website compares the Treaty in Maori and English.
• For a basic introduction to the Treaty of Waitangi, Arena provides a short guide "for people who don't know a lot about it".
• The Tino Rangatiratanga website has a history of the Treaty of Waitangi from a Maori perspective.
• The Treaty Resource Centre has a number of  documents such as Lord Normanby's original instructions in 1840 and an analysis of rights and responsibilities embodied in the Treaty.  Further education resource materials are planned for this site.
• Foreshore and Seabed  is one of the most recent issues that people have been organising campaigns around. Peace Movement Aotearoa has a good information page.
