New Charities Bill and advocacy
The Charities Act was passed into law on 13 April 2005. It provides for the setting up of a Charities Commission which will approve and register charities.
During the submission process, concern was raised about the issue of advocacy. A section of
"Questions and answers about Cabinet's recent policy changes to the Charities Bill" addresses this: scroll down to the section on "what is being done about advocacy?". This section seems to clarify that organisations set up for advocacy only won't be registered as charities, but advocacy in support of a charitable purpose is allowed.
