Beta version of National Broadband Map released
Digital Strategy,
At the recent Digital Summit 2.0 an on-line map was launched as a first step towards providing a more comprehensive view of broadband demand, by geographically mapping state sector locations.
In web 2.0, this map is looking to start an open interaction with users.
The initial launch of the on-line map, based on local technology from ProjextX, is a Beta version delivering an initial level of information and functionality which can then be enhanced based on user feedback.
Key features include mapping of:
- State sector locations: government covering public service departments; health covering District Health Boards and GPs; education covering tertiary institutes, schools, early childhood education sites, Industry Training Organisations and certifying authorities; and local government at this stage including libraries only.
- Network Infrastructure: currently showing the availability of fibre optic cable infrastructure or fibre based high-speed broadband service areas.
- User Input: for the mapping of other demand from either business or residential users. Business input will be mapped as specific demand points in the same way as state sector locations. Residential demand will be aggregated and summarised at meshblock level.
