The UPLIFT course includes and demonstrates these core values on society and community development, and makes and calls for commitments.

Recognising and valuing the:

  • Diversity of our society
  • Importance of community learning and enterprise to the country’s development
  • Benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to developing an individual’s, family’s / whanau, hapu, iwi and  community’s potential
  • Importance of context and relevance for adult learners
  • Participants’ current thinking, prior knowledge and experience, and personal aspirations.

Contribute to the development of sustainable community technology learning centres by

  • Exploring opportunities for learners to enter other ICT learning programmes
  • Ensuring that the course is flexible, seen as relevant by the participants and stakeholders, and meets academic quality standards
  • Developing models and practical tools that enable whanau, hapu, community groups, business and government to work together at a local and national level
  • Encouraging collaboration and relationship building within and across economically disadvantaged and/ or underserved localities and communities
  • Contribute to the development of economically disadvantaged and/or underserved localities and communities through the up-skilling of individual learners, whanau, hapu and community organisations.
