The Community Sector Taskforce’s job is to establish a new entity to coordinate and be a focal point for community, voluntary and Tangata Whenua organisations on Sector wide issues.

The entity is starting to look good:

Diagram of the new entity. It shows two houses - Tangata Tiriti and Tanagata Whenua - meeting in a third combined house. The two houses are both made up of organisations, regions, sectors; and umbrella organisations, marae, and whanau, hapu and iwi as appropriate. Trustees provide leadership, deal with national level issues and protect the kaupapa, supported by staff.
Our entity is made up of the links with the regions, sectors and grass roots of the Community and Voluntary Sector.

Being non-aligned and independent of government, our entity will structure itself so that the involvement and participation of Tangata Whenua will reflect their role and status as Tiriti/Treaty partners.  This will be a benefit to all parts of the Community and Voluntary Sector.

The work programme between now and June is as follows:

  • Develop Tiriti/Treaty 2 house model (including operating guidelines)
  • Develop and implement an effective communications strategy including electronic and website usage.
  • Encourage active input into the development of the new entity by people involved in community, voluntary and Tangata Whenua organisations
  • Also ensure the active input and participation of ethnic and Pacific communities, and umbrella and national organisations
  • Encourage the development of sector wide priority issues and capacity building needs for the new Trust to work on
  • Finalise the Trust Deed for the Community & Voluntary Sector Manaakitanga Trust, plan for and appoint the inaugural Trustees
  • Encourage people to nominate Trustees and support a representative gathering at the AGM in May.
  • Conduct the first Annual General Meeting of the new Trust.
