2004 Community Forum Background Information
The Community Sector Taskforce (CST) – working alongside Te Wero, the Maori Action Group - has been established in order to further the recommendations identified within He Waka Kotuia, the report of the 2002 Community-Government Relationship Steering Committee.
One of the CST’s key tasks is to hold forums around New Zealand, leading to a national forum in late May 2004.
The Forums:
18 regional forums and a number of sector forums will be held from February through to April 2004. The forums offer people in the community and voluntary sector the opportunity:
- To learn about the work to date
- Taskforce/Te Wero - helping build an “informed, connected, able sector”
- Tiriti/Treaty based practice project
- Resourcing & Accountability work stream
- Participatory Processes work stream
- Information Network project
- To look ahead to how the work done can be continued on a sustainable basis
- Discussion of Future Directions
- A “common statement” for the community and voluntary (NGO) sector
- Who we are as a sector
- The principles and values which drive us
- Our place in the wider society
- An ongoing process/entity so our whole sector can
- Be profiled and valued for the contribution it makes
- Build consensus
- Learn from each other / share good practice
- Discuss common issues
- Take initiatives of mutual benefit to our organisations regionally or nationally
- Ensure a range of diverse perspectives are represented in any dialogue with Government
- Demonstrate a constructive working model of Tiriti/Treaty based practice
- To make decisions about how the forum will contribute to that ongoing work.
- Mandating participation in the national forum/hui
- Your response to “common statement”, and future national process/entity
- Planning for future work – local and national
Who should come:
Everyone is invited, but we especially want to encourage the key movers and shakers of the sector to be there. There will be time on the day to discuss local issues and priorities.
Tiriti/Treaty based:
A Tiriti/Treaty based process will be used for all forums. This will include an opportunity for tangata whenua and “tangata tiriti” to caucus in setting local priorities and in making decisions.
Further information:
Further information about the Forums is in the Community Centre 'Hui, Conferences and Events' listing.
