Profiles of Taskforce members (2004)
The Community Sector Taskforce has been set up as a result of work by the Community-Government Relationship Steering Group. This group recommended that two community-based and community-driven groups be set up to develop projects to ensure the community and voluntary sector is informed, connected and able to do its work.
Gill Genet, Chair
Gill runs Operate Breakout which "achieves solutions to challenges with strategic and creative thinking and processes."
She is currently active in the community through being a board member for NZRA - New Zealand Recreation Assn, OAC - Obesity Action Coalition and with sports teams and clubs and volunteering at school.
Atareta Poananga
Atareta is a Lawyer and a Gisbourne District Councillor.
She has had a life-time of experience in Maori community development inclusive of Iwi, Hapu and Whanau, in urban areas.
Enid Leighton, Ngati Awa
Enid Leighton is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Ngati Awa Social and Health Services in Whakatane and as the former General Manager of the Disabilities Resource Centre EBOP has been in General Management for the past 9 years.
With an extensive background in the health and social sectors, Enid has recently developed and continued to grow and integrate the service delivery areas of Ngati Awa, which include health, social, employment and housing programmes.
Enid is a Director of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Primary Health Organisation, and a trustee of the Bay of Plenty Community Trust. A former member of the Community and Voluntary Sector Working Party and Steering Group, Enid was recently re-appointed to Stage 3 as Chairperson of Te Wero to further develop the Maori components of the Community & Voluntary sector work programme.
She was appointed a Companion of the Queens Service Order (Q.S.O) for Public Services in 2003.
Pat Seymour
Pat has been actively involved in community development for many years and has been working for the council of social services for over 16 years.
She was a district councillor for three years.
Pat is currently the manager of Tokoroa Council of Social Services
Peter Glensor
Peter has been active in the NGO sector for over 30 years - in aid and development, the ecumenical movement, youth work, Treaty and racism training, local community development and health.
Significant recent involvements have been: ten years as National Coordinator of Health Care Aotearoa, a national network of community owned primary health services, national Chair of ANGOA (the Association of NGOs of Aotearoa), and the Health NGOs working group.
He currently serves on Wesley Community Action and the Community Trust of Wellington, and has been a VSA volunteer, a primary school BoT chair, and a Hutt City Councillor.
Peter is an elected member and Chair of the Hutt Valley District Health Board.
Samuelu Sefuiva
Sam has an extensive background in the not-for-profit sector. He has experience in youth, recreation planning and community development as well as strategic planning, with a particular focus on Pacific people's development both nationally and internationally.
Since 1990 Sam has been a principal partner in a strategic management and training consultancy. In this, he has been involved in strategic communications and the start-up of new initiatives in: Tagata Pasifika led NGO initiatives in: Recreation; Leadership development; Older peoples; Drug & Alcohol Prevention; Education – trade / early childhood / sport / arts / tertiary – health promotion; children’s advocacy; strategic public sector advice; land transport safety; health and housing research. Sam is currently a director of the Pacific Business Trust and a member of the Pacific Development & Conservation Trust.
Recently Samuelu (Sam) Sefuiva joined the NZ Human Rights Commission as acting Manager Race and Ethnic Relations.
Sandi Morrison
Sandi has 25 years experience working with central and local government; community and private sector interests developing strategy, projects and new services to support local economic and community development.
She works strategically on local and regional issues impacting on economic development, skill shortages and unemployment.
Sandi is actively involved as a foundation Trustee of Auckland New Ventures Inc / Te Amorangi o Tamaki; the Arts Regional Trust A R T and The Big Idea / Te Aria Nui.
She has been a Hillary Commissioner and a Board member of the Arts Council of NZ : Toi Aotearoa.
Tina Reid
Tina has been with the Federation since 1997 coming from a community development background.
She has held positions with the Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington City Council, and YWCA; and has had a range of roles in the voluntary welfare field.
Weng Kei Chen
Born in Malaysia and is of Chinese descent, Weng Kei came to Christchurch for his tertiary education in 1969, since completing his tertiary education he has been working in the Local Government sector as an engineer specialising in roading policies and management. He is a member of the New Zealand Utilities Advisory Group working on projects in promoting and enhancing relationships in the infrastructure industries.
Weng-Kei has always been passionate about community development, he has served six years as the President of Canterbury Chinese Cultural Centre in the mid 1980s as a volunteer.
