ChangeMakers Refugee Forum,
To celebrate World Refugee Day 2010 (20 June), English Language Partners New Zealand and ChangeMakers Refugee Forum have co-launched a Facebook page with a focus on refugee resettlement in New Zealand.
“I support refugee resettlement in NZ” aims to show solidarity for people from refugee backgrounds who are resettling in Aotearoa. Supporters can contribute to the page by posting messages, photos, videos, events and links. They can also network from the page through to other like-minded initiatives.
“New Zealand makes a significant contribution to refugee resettlement, accepting 750 people every year through a UN quota system,” said Claire Szabo, Chief Executive of English Language Partners New Zealand.
Next week is Volunteer Awareness Week and Ms Szabo acknowledged the role many individuals and groups play in helping with the settlement process.
“There are a myriad of volunteers working to help people to settle in – either through our organisation, or through other initiatives. Some are also from refugee backgrounds themselves and keen to give back to their communities.”
The Facebook page aims to show how many people support refugees building a new life for themselves and their families here. Ms Szabo urged people to take a closer look, “If you also support refugee resettlement then visit the page and become a fan”.
