Significant Projects Fund fully allocated

Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington,

The Significant Community Based Project Fund (SCBPF) has now been fully allocated. To maximize the benefits of the projects, without any unnecessary delays, all the funding has now been distributed. No further funding round is planned at this time. The Minister of Internal Affairs has, however, been asked to report to Cabinet on the level of demand for projects that would have been eligible to apply had the fund continued.

The Prime Minister announced the fund in 2005. It was established to distribute $32 million over a maximum of four years to regionally or nationally significant projects that had significant support and participation from the community but were unable to be completed because they could not access sufficient funding.

Many significant projects have been enabled by the fund. These are geographically spread throughout the country and are in the designated areas of arts, culture and heritage; sport and recreation; tourism; conservation and the environment; and economic development.
