Te Kaiawhina Ahumahi, National
There has been a need expressed to set some performance standards for areas such as management of volunteers and also governance.
Volunteers or unpaid workers make a significant contribution to the social services (and other) sector.
Te Kaiawhina Ahumahi is the industry training organization (ITO) for the social services and has a mandate to set standards for that sector but not for the more generic skills referred to above.
It has been suggested that a subgroup working under the ANGOA umbrella look to develop a strategy whereby performance standards could be developed for the volunteer sector. Since this sector cuts across any single ITO's gazetted coverage, any developments would eventually need to involve several ITOs and should not duplicate any existing developments.
Several organisations, convened by Peter Fleming of Te Kaiawhina Ahumahi are in the process of holding some preliminary discussions about how any of this might work.
