NZ Council of Social Services, National
NZCOSS is delighted to announce that international community development specialist Tim Dyce has now been confirmed to speak at this year's Conference, Raraka Korero: Weaving Our Stories.
Tim Dyce began his working life as a junior lecturer in history at Victoria University and living in a commune in central Wellington where he had been inspired by James K Baxter to practice the Jerusalem spirit in an urban setting.
In 1973 he became Founder-Director of Community Volunteers, New Zealand's then full time domestic volunteer scheme. After a period as a community development consultant and lecturer based in Auckland, Tim worked in Australia, principally for the credit co-operative movement in Melbourne and later for the Australian Association of Co-operatives in Sydney.
Since 1993 he has run training programmes and consultancies in the Pacific, Asia and Africa in fields of small business associations, women entrepreneur development, poverty alleviation, donor project evaluation, and post-crisis livelihoods development.
He has worked extensively with the International Labour Organization in Geneva, Bangkok, and New Delhi, and currently works as a consultant to its International Training Centre in Turin, Italy.
NZCOSS is pleased to be able to add further value to this year's Conference by bringing Tim to New Zealand. Tim's presentation will incorporate stories of the early days of community development in the 1970s in New Zealand, using them as a starting point to discuss community development issues of both the developed and developing world. His presentation will be on the first evening of the Conference, which runs from 17–19 October 2006.
Conference registrations are now open. All interested people are welcome to attend.
