Robin Hood Foundation, National
Non-profit organisations can now have their voice heard in the media for free, thanks to Adaid, an advertising service operated by the Robin Hood Foundation.
The Foundation received establishment funding from Family and Community Services Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) for a one-year project that pairs non-profit social services providers with the advertising and communications industry. The aim is to produce professional, eye-catching campaigns to raise awareness and funds for their causes.
The Robin Hood Foundation has modelled Adaid on a similar and successful American service called Ad Council (www.adcouncil.org). The scheme works by non-profit social service providers filling out a briefing from the Adaid website at www.robinhood.org.nz.
From the website advertising agencies and tertiary marketing / advertising / design students select one (or more) of the non-profit groups for which they can, for free, create a print, radio, billboard, Internet or television campaign. Then media owners choose an ad on the website and donate the media space to run it in.
For non-profit groups not yet ready to engage in a communications campaign, Robin Hood is planning introductory clinics to ensure groups have the basics right before they fill out the briefing form.
