Aotearoa NZ ICSW Forum, National
Maori and Pacific Island and other community organisations which have a focus on social welfare or social development would be welcome to join the Aotearoa NZ ICSW Forum.
The International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW) is a non-governmental organisation which represents national and local organisations in more than 50 countries throughout the world.
Collectively it represents tens of thousands of community organisations which work directly at the grass-roots with people in poverty, hardship or distress. Within their own communities, its network of organisations provides help for a wide range of people who are poor, ill, disabled, unemployed, frail or oppressed. They help young people, older people, families, indigenous peoples, migrants, refugees and others who are experiencing special hardship or vulnerability.
Three New Zealand social service umbrella organisations — NZ Council of Social Services, NZ Council of Christian Social Services and NZ Federation of Voluntary Welfare Organisations — are joining together to form an interim national body, the Aotearoa NZ ICSW Forum.
The Federation has itself been a Category C member for many years, but as a group we are applying to be a Category A member, so that we can more fully participate in international and regional level ICSW activities.
The partners are keen to broaden membership beyond these three organisations, particularly to Maori and Pacific Island community organisations which have a focus on social welfare or social development.
They welcome your participation in the Forum, which will be open to all social welfare-focused non-government organisations within NZ.
