New fund for community initiatives tackling family violence - apply by 16 February

Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families, National

The Minister of Social Development, Hon David Benson-Pope has announced a new fund to support community-wide initiatives for preventing family violence.

The design of this fund typically suits (but is not limited to) community awareness raising and education initiatives that have a community-wide focus, and are often developed by community collaborative, or Family Violence intervention networks.

Applications open today [1/12/2006], and close on 16 February 2007.

This fund is a part of the campaign to change attitudes and behaviour to prevent family violence; an initiative of the first Programme of Action of the Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families. It is led by Family and Community Services within the Ministry of Social Development and the Families Commission.

The fund is targeted at small scale community-wide initiatives. The maximum grant available is $30,000 (excl GST).

We are inviting applications from community groups and networks that have a track record of working in family violence prevention, to support some of the great ideas and actions being developed at a community level.

Application forms and further information are available on the Family and Community Services website: www.familyservices.govt.nz.
