Community scheme applications close 27 November

Community Development Scheme, Various North Island

Giving communities a leg-up to shape their own futures is the philosophy behind the Community Development Scheme.

Applications are invited from community organisations / hapū / iwi based in specific areas during each funding round.

This year funding is available to establish five new projects, in areas that have not previously had the opportunity to apply to the scheme. The five combined areas are:

• Horowhenua and Otaki
• Western Bay of Plenty and Tauranga
• Taupo and Rotorua
• North Shore
• Porirua

Applications to the scheme must be submitted by 4.00pm Monday, 27 November. Only one project will be funded in each area.

Administered by the Department of Internal Affairs, the scheme funds the employment, for a specified period, of community development workers who assist communities to help themselves. The focus is on community driven, community based projects that build capacity and capability.
