Media Release – Immediate Release 9th August, 2005 Massive Visitor Numbers View Wellington’s One-Stop-Shop A new website designed for tourists and visitors to the Wellington region has attracted 1600 visitors within just three weeks of going live.Designed and hosted by the Wellington Region 2020 Communications Trust, the ‘Wellington Portal’ website acts as a much needed hub for the region’s key tourism, recreation, entertainment, education, business and general information websites by making it a co ordinated one-stop-shop for tourists and visitors to the region. ‘We’re delighted and overwhelmed with the response so far’, says Trust Director, Mike Rumble. ‘There’s been more than 1,600 visitors and over 15,000 hits on the site since we went live in June which is astounding. We suspect that the Lions tour created a lot of the initial interest, which is very pleasing for us because it is events like this that the site was designed for. Interestingly though, we’re aware that many locals have used the site as well because it’s very easy to navigate and there’s a wealth of good information up there.’ The latest website comes hot on the heels of the recent development of a Wellington Tertiary Education website. Recently, the Trust co ordinated the development of an interactive Wellington tertiary education website which saw the regions three polytechnics, WelTec, Whitireia and the Open Polytechnic come together in one website location. The site provides details on all available courses at the three institutions and attracts some 700 visitors a month – many from off shore. The Wellington Portal website address is: www.wellington.net.nz More Information: Mike Rumble Director Wellington Region 2020 Communications Trust Email: director@wgtn2020.org.nz Ph: 04 473 5757Mob: (027) 498-7590About the Wellington Region 2020 Communications TrustThe Wellington Region 2020 Communications Trust is a not-for-profit charitable Trust funded principally by the Wellington City Council, established to provide Wellington based charity organisations and community groups with free access to innovative information technologies and Internet based services, including website development and hosting, internet training and website publishing.
