Free new service - Email Counselling

Lifeline Christchurch, New Zealand

Lifeline Christchurch launched a Free Email Counselling service in January 2005. The response has exceeded our expectations!

This free service makes counselling available to those who prefer to write down their problems or prefer using a computer to communicate, and people with special needs (for example, the deaf and hearing impaired).

Who has emailed the service?

  • Ann: A young woman was traumatised by an horrific accident. She was isolated, felt very alone and unable to speak about her situation.
  • Jo: A mother concerned about her daughter's behaviour which included threats of self-harm.
  • John: He had no support following the break up of a long term relationship and was concerned about his mental well-being.

The service has been fully research and is adapted from a model developed by the Samaritans in the United Kingdom. Our email counsellors are fully trained.

To email a counsellor write to chris@elifeline.co.nz.
