Applications for Community Post are now open

New Zealand Post, Nationwide

29th July 2005  New Zealand Post announced today that the number of postage included envelopes donated through its Community Post programme would increase by 250,000 this year, bringing the total number of envelopes donated nationwide to one million.

Applications for Community Post are open to community groups throughout are open from 1 August 2005.  Last year the Community Post Programme donated 750,000 envelopes to a total of 3305 organisations nationwide.

The programme aims to support non-profit organisations at the ‘grass roots’ level by assisting them with proactive activities that require postage, such as communications or fundraising.   The envelopes help a variety of groups, including those involved in art and culture, education, health and welfare, sport, and the environment.

Community Post has a strong regional emphasis, and this is reflected in the process for allocating envelopes.  Each of the 15 Community Post regions has a Board, made up of local New Zealand Post people and local business and community leaders.  The Board allocates envelopes to non-profit groups in their own area, according to regional needs.

New Zealand Post National Sponsorship Manager Victoria Wicks-Brown said that increasing the number of donated envelopes by a quarter of a million would ensure that New Zealand Post could provide even more support to those organisations who contribute so much to New Zealand communities.

“Feedback from last year’s Community Post recipients was very positive, with groups saying the envelopes were a practical method of sponsorship that made a real difference,” said Ms Wicks-Brown.

“Community Post is New Zealand Post’s cornerstone sponsorship and allows us to support a large number and wide cross-section of New Zealanders.”
