Submitting News Form

Tips and assistance for submitting news items.

News stories should be topical, concise and factual, such as press releases from your organisation, reports and responses to events, and news of activities of interest to community organisations. Summaries of long news items can be submitted with links to full versions of the story or related stories.

Notices for upcoming events, availability of resources or website information should be submitted as Events, Classified Advertisements or Website Links.

News heading

The title of the news story. Keep it short (no more than 6-7 words) factual and informative.

The Heading and Organisation boxes, and the first couple of lines of the Description box are displayed on the Current News page, so use them to give a short summary of the news item.

Organisation

The full name or a truncated plain language version of your organisation. Avoid acronyms unless they are very well known.

Town

Where your organisation is based.

Description

The body of the news article. News articles should begin with a concise description of the actual event being reported on, with explanation, opinion and background information further down in the story.

Contact person

The name of the person who can answer enquiries about the news item.

Postal address

A post office box or street address for further information or enquiries.

Phone

A number for further information. You can include extensions and more than one phone number. Don't forget the STD code.

Email

An e-mail contact for further information.

Website address

An address where more information about the news item can be found. Link directly to the page with information about the news item (eg a recent news or notices page) rather than just the home page of your organisation. "Http://" at the beginning of the website address is inserted automatically and should NOT be included in your entry.

Submitted by

Name of the person or organisation submitting the news item.

Submit

Careful! - once submitted you will be able to view your news item text, but you cannot edit it at this stage - so check carefully before submitting. This view does not show paragraph breaks, and does not show your website address as a live link, but these will format automatically in the final version.

Removing News Items

News items will be automatically removed as they date or are displaced by new news items. If you wish to remove your news item contact us.
