He Tomokanga ki Nga Ara Hou: CommunityNet Aotearoa Long-term Plan 2004-2007

This Long-term Plan was prepared by the CommunityNet Aotearoa Advisory Group in August 2003, and refined by feedback and discussion groups in September and November. The plan is regularly reviewed and uodated by the Advisory Group.

Introduction (December 2003)

CommunityNet Aotearoa (www.community.net.nz) is ready to enter a new phase of its journey. From its pioneering steps in 1998, the website has evolved into a powerful information and networking resource. Yet there are many challenges ahead as we strive to meet the needs of people working in and with tangata whenua and community organisations. It is timely to set a course to strengthen and further develop the website in upcoming years.

The community sector has made it clear where the website could be expanded and improved. This document provides a route-map about where the website is going, and how to get there.

The aim is to reach a point where the website is the ‘first port of call’ for community organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We will know we have reached this point when:

  • CommunityNet Aotearoa is the start page for everyone working in and with Māori and community and voluntary groups
  • All such organisations have a link to CommunityNet Aotearoa from their own
    website.

Now that He Tomokanga ki Nga Ara Hou is finalised, the job remains to implement the many actions. The Advisory Group working in partnership with the Department of Internal Affairs cannot do this on their own. It will take the active involvement of tangata whenua and community organisations. Your contribution to the website will help ensure it grows and continues to meet the needs of the community sector.
